Well let's talk about prepaid legal services. My mom bought an insurance policy through a company called Primerica. She purchased this policy 7 years before she passed away. Now when she bought this policy she also bought the extra service that went with it call prepaid legal. My mom paid $25.00 a month for this and paid it faithfully every month. The insurance was to pay for all of her final expenses, and for a attorney to handle all of her final arrangements. She had set it up so that my brothers and myself would not have to be concerned with any of it at the time of her death. Well She passed a couple years ago and we found out she had been scammed. Well partially scammed anyways. The insurance policy did pay off just as it was supposed to, but! The prepaid attorney refused to even get on the phone and talk with us. We ended up doing everything he was prepaid for 7 years to do. Since my mother had setup this service, we really had no idea what all needed to be done after her death. Like accounts that needed to be closed, accounts that needed to paid off, or anything else. When we would try to discuss it with her, she would always tell us not to worry about it, she had it took care of already. And all we needed to do was call this number she had on a card and notify them of her death.

Well as I said the day came that she passed and we did as she to do. While we were at the funeral home we made the call to them and was told they would not be doing anything. The death insurance paid just as it was supposed to so we were able to give her the burial that she deserved. But because she had put all of her faith into the prepaid legal service, we ended up having to hunt down all of her accounts and other final arrangements. But that's not even what upset us as we were glad to do it for her. What upset us was the fact that we were told that she was dead and the company had no further obligations to her. Now my mother was not a rich woman by any means, but she did have a lot of things that had to be handled after her death. But the fact that they refused fulfill the obligations that they did have to her, wasn't even the worst part of it. That wouldn't come till the next month.

Please do not use your bad experience and discourage other individual who would like to better their life no doubt about it your mom misinterpret what was said, and what she should have done was to inform her children of plan and let you all have an idea of what was the policy all about so that when she passed all her children would be aware of her policy plan and Know what to do. And just to enlighten all writers and readers Primerica does not just let people do policies like that of course they have to do classes and an exam in order to receive a license to work with the company.

Primerica is a "one-product-fits-all" company that proudly masks high school drop outs as financial advisors to make the quickest buck. Rarely are their rates competitive. Don't buy an insurance policy, mutual funds, or any other financial instrument/security from someone who never went to business school, period. It's like having a mechanic give you orthopedic surgery. I don't check this board--first time here--so all you loyal Primerica reps about to respond will not likely be getting a response. If you are defending Primerica you are a current rep and either 1) extremely unethical 2) extremely unmarketable (otherwise you'd be at a real brokerage) or 3) extremely new and haven't yet figured out the operation. No, I've never worked at Primerica, but I've gotten numerous calls from these idiots while I was in grad school thinking I'd want to work for them. Let's see, I was in the military for 4 years, undergrad Business Admin from a tier 2 B-school, MBA in Finance, Series 6, 7 & 63.

I am sorry for your loss. The loss of a loved one can be devastating. I've worked in the insurance industry for 16 years. At the time of death, unless someone has been named as an Executor of the Estate, closing accounts and dealing with final arrangements is difficult. To close an auto insurance plan for example, the family of the deceased must provide a death certificate. In addition (if the agency is following standard procedures) no changes should be made on an account of the deceased without talking with the Executor of the Estate. I also represent Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. and have sold their Legal Plans for over 7 years. I am sorry your mother misunderstood how her benefits worked. I am also sorry, you felt the attorney or lawfirm was not helpful. The plan only covers the member. Once the member becomes deceased, the plan is no longer in effect - as the member is deceased. Movies and t.v. mislead people to think a final meeting at a lawfirm with an attor

Primerica Prepaid Legal doesn't do commercials. There are other companies that may do commercials and you may think they are Primerica, but I can assure you they do not! Your mother was misinformed. So sorry for your lost. I have experienced the death of both my parents and I am so aware of all the work that goes into taking care of closing accounts and other things, etc. You have to present a death certificate to close accounts. Phone calls mean nothing. Things have to be done with documents. Your mother needed a will. She should have made an appointment with a lawyer from Prepaid Legal for her FREE WILL. The will would have spoken for her after her death since she could not speak for herself. I use the service all the time and I LOVE IT!!! NOTHING WORKS PROPERLY UNLESS YOU READ THE DIRECTIONS AND USE IT PROPERLY! They had every right to continue taking money from the account. HOWEVER, what prepaid legal should have told you is, to submit a death certificat

I currently have a prepaid legal contract through Primerica and nowhere in the policy does it state that after death the lawyers will do anything of the sort for the deceased. She was definitely misinformed. She should have taken the time to get a free will set up for herself while she still could. That would have taken care of the things you are talking about. I'm very sorry for the loss of your mother, but the PrePaid legal she paid for is a very good program. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but that doesn't mean the program is a bad one.

how could you see commercials for this on tv. i am a rep for primerica and I know that Primerica works on word of mouth and does no advertising in any way except for word of mouth. as for the prepaid legal I think she misunderstood how it worked. it does offer a will and it looks like she didnt set that up.

Your mom unfortunately misunderstood how the program works, or was misinformed. I have pre-paid legal and love it, but it provides none of the services you thought it would.

As I said in the article, the insurance part of their company is very reliable, but the prepaid legal is another story. I would stay away from any dealings with the legal part of their company.

I see the commercials for this company all the time on the tv. Glad you shared your story.
